Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens will lead expansion in the North

July 21, 2006

It is announced today (Thursday 13th July) that Malmaison Holdings Ltd has successfully completed the purchase of Glasgow’s most renowned luxury hotel, One Devonshire Gardens. The hotel will relaunch as Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens in October this year.

The purchase of the Hotel is the first stage of an ambitious expansion programme in the North for Malmaison Holdings Ltd which owns the UK’s leading lifestyle hotel brands, Hotel du Vin and Malmaison.

The company has already acquired a hotel in Edinburgh, which will see the introduction of the successful Hotel du Vin brand in the Capital and negotiations are in progress for properties in Newcastle and St Andrews.

Robert B. Cook, Hotel du Vin and Malmaison Chief Executive also has plans for his native town of Aberdeen, stating: “We are confident of identifying the right property there in the coming months. “

One Devonshire Gardens in Glasgow occupies a series of Victorian townhouses in the heart of the city’s fashionable West End. The launch of Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens will involve the upgrade of bedrooms in house 5 and the complete refurbishment of house 4, which was purchased by the pervious owners, Citrus Hotels Ltd, prior to the sale.  The refurbishment programme, which will be complete by January 2007, will allow the Hotel to operate across the entire terrace for the first time.

Cook commented: “One Devonshire Gardens is the perfect launch pad for Hotel du Vin in Scotland. We intend to maintain the very best of the One Devonshire brand, which is deservedly recognised as the definitive Scottish boutique hotel, while introducing the exceptional qualities that make Hotel du Vin the stylish destination of choice in cities throughout the UK.”

Cook concluded: “It is our intention to give Glasgow and Scotland a hotel it can continue to be truly proud of in Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens.”

In addition to the planned expansion in the North, next year Hotel du Vin will open in York and Cambridge complimenting hotels in Brighton, Bristol, Birmingham, Henley on Thames, Harrogate, Winchester and Tunbridge Wells.
