St Wolfgang, Autrice
Situated right in the heart of the Austrian Lake District, St Wolfgang is one of the preferred resorts of Austria. St Wolfgang is a pleasant and historic village, in a marvellous setting on the banks of the Wolfgangsee (Lake Wolfgang). In the centre of St Wolfgang there is a late gothic pilgrimage church and old buildings as well as the well-known 'White Horse Inn', made famous by the Operetta that bears the same name. On a terrace over the Wolfgangsee stands the late gothic pilgrimage church. After enduring a fire, the church was reconstructed between 1429 and 1477, and painted in baroque style in 1683. In addition to the tower, three doorways are still from the original church. Music is very important to St Wolfgang. The village organises light classical, folklore and operatic concerts and biweekly brass band concerts in the village square. It is not by coincidence that the film 'The Sound of Music' was filmed in nearby Salzburg and this area! Whether you are looking for a relaxing time cruising the clear waters of a mountain lake, a great base to walk around the mountains of the Lake District, or a centre with fabulous modes of transport and a great excursions program, St Wolfgang is just the right place for you.
