Skerries, Irlanda
Skerries è una piccola cittadina di pescatori capitale del Fingal che si stende sulla costa orientale dell’Irlanda, a 18 km dal centro di Dublino. Il nome Skerries deriva dal Norreno e significa “gruppo di isole rocciose”. Skerries è una florida cittadina di mare, con molto da offrire ai turisti: leggende, miti, castelli, cultura e anche gare motociclistiche. La leggenda vuole che San Patrizio lasciò la sua impronta su una roccia a Red Island, durante la sua breve visita all’Isola di San Patrizio. A Skerries è possibile vedere ancora due mulini a vento e uno ad acqua che venivano usati per macinare grano, frumento, avena e orzo, questi erano in funzione fino all’inizio del 20esimo secolo. Il Grande Mulino a vento di Skerries offre una magnifica vista sulla costa e sulla campagna circostante. La Skerries 100 è senza dubbio una delle gare di motociclismo su strada più famose d’Irlanda, si tiene qui dal 1946. Le gare di motociclismo a Skerries iniziarono negli anni ’30. Un’altra gara da vedere è la Kilalane Road Races che si tiene ad inizio settembre.
