Rathmullan, Irlanda
Rathmullan (Ráth Maoláin in irlandese) è una piccola cittadina di mare nella contea Donegal, situata sulle sponde orientali del Lough Swilly, 11 km a nord est di Rameltgon e 12 km a est di Milford. Rathmullan fece da scenario al “Volo dei Conti” nel 1607 ed ospita le rovine del monastero carmelitano medievale che fu costruito nel 1516 da Eoghan Rua MacSweeney. Il monastero fu saccheggiato da una guarnigione inglese da Sligo nel 1595. Nel 1617 il monastero fu occuparo dal vescovo protestante di Raphoe, il vescovo Knox, che lo trasformò in una roccaforte durante la colonizzazione del Donegal. Nel 18esimo secolo Rathmullan fu il luogo della cattura di Wolfe Tone, uno dei capi delle sommosse del 1798. Nel 19esimo secolo una batteria inglese stazionava sul molo per difendere Lough Sillu da una possibile invasione francese durante le guerre Napoleoniche.
