Kahanda Kanda Boutique Hotel, Galle
Kahanda Kanda, one of Southern Sri Lanka's newest boutique hotels, offers the indulgent luxuries of a private villa with the service of a five star hotel, and is situated near the southern coast not far from Galle. Perched high above Koggala Lake with stunning views across the lake and jungle, this 10acre working tea estate is a collaboration of the English designer/owner and a talented Australian architect has produced a villa of outstanding ethnic luxury and style. Yellow Moon Lodge, a name synonym to Kahanda Kanda was built in 2000 as a private villa, Kahanda Kanda is now one of the chic brigades of boutique hotels, perched on top of a ridge and surrounded by a 12-acre tea estate. It is 15km from Galle, 5 km inland from the coast and still being only ten minutes from the world's best beaches. Accommodation is arranged in terraced, stand alone, en-suite pavilions which offer breathtaking panoramic views of palm fringed jungle and the Indian Ocean while 'room' is stylishly and comfortably furnished in the Asian manner. Offering an exquisite fusion cuisine, the hotel uses only the freshest local produce, along with a selection of vegetables and herbs grown on the estate, thereby ensuring the best of flavors. Both the two resident chefs have been trained in Thailand, and offer a mouth-watering range of Thai dishes, as well as western fusion specials. The infinity edged pool enables the energetic to work off an indulgent lunch, whilst others simply float around. At the deepest end a cascade falls from the carved wall above, flowing across the pool to its perpetuity edge and seeming to flow beyond to Koggala Lake in the distance.
