Ballinrobe is the ideal place from which the visitor may enjoy walking and cycling tours throughout South West Ireland. The town lies some 48 km north of Galway. Dating back to 1390, Ballinrobe is said to be the oldest town in South Mayo. There are many renovated and historic structures in the area. The District Courtroom is housed in the old Market House, a market center for local produce established in 1752. Today, Ballinrobe is once again an exciting market town. Its recent growth is attributable to the Irish construction. The modern sports complex in Ballinrobe has a newly equipped gymnasium that caters for visitors to the town. Every year, the Saint Mary's Choral Society stages a musical performance and some of them are played by both local and visiting groups. The town has some very fine pubs and restaurants offering high quality cuisine. Ballinrobe is within 90 minutes drive of the Burren in County Clare and Yeats County in Sligo, and 30 minutes drive from Westport. The town is within easy reach of Galway and Knock International Airport.
