Salzbourg, Autrice
Salzburg, a magnificent city of music and culture set against a backdrop of mountain scenery. The town has preserved an extraordinarily rich urban fabric, developed over a period of time from the Middle Ages to the XIXth century when it was a city-state ruled by a prince-archbishop. Its Flamboyant Gothic art fascinated many craftsmen and artists before the city became even better known through the work of prestigious Italian architects, to whom the centre of Salzburg owes much of its Baroque appearance. Because of the richness of its heritage, Salzburg is a UNESCO World heritage Site. Perhaps it is this meeting-point of northern and southern Europe that has inspired the genius of Salzburg's most famous son, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose name has been associated with the city ever since.
