Isla Mujeres, Mexico
Isla Mujeres is the ideal place for a truly relaxing vacation and a place to make new friends among the local people, the warm and friendly descendants of the original Mayans; like our guests, they are blessed with the easy-going lifestyle of the island. Here you’ll find the perfect vacation place for all ages, located only 20 minutes by boat from Cancun, the island is only 5 miles long and ½ mile wide, in the colorful downtown area you will find interesting restaurants, gift shops and other activities that you can enjoy: Bicycle riding, yoga, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayak, fishing, golf cars riding and visiting the turtle farm, you can also swim with the dolphins and sharks, or get a relaxing massage. The island got its name from the Spaniards who landed here in the 17th century, they found hundreds of female figurines and a temple dedicated to the goddess Ixchel stood for centuries at southern tip. The island has been continuously inhabited by Mayans, and Maya is still the first language for many islanders.
