The ancient Farilya, Gundogan (which means “rising sun”) is one of the oldest settlements of the Bodrum Peninsula. Traditionally a fishing and sponge-hunting village the landscape boasts olive and tangerines trees. Gundogan is also enjoying the benefits of tourism in our day. Gundogan is nestled on the skirts of a rocky hill that houses the ruins of monasteries, as well as a church and a mosque, emphasizing its rich cultural tradition. The Yali Mosque and the ancient windmills on the shore, like the Rabbit and Apostle Islands just across the sea, make the whole setting completely dreamlike. The clear sea around Gundogan is also a haven for snorkelers and scuba divers alike.
