San Luis de Potosi, Mexico

San Luis de Potosi City is the capital of the State of San Luis Potosi. The city offers visitors the chance to discover the rich inheritance of historical culture, art and architecture. Nicknamed "The City of Gardens," San Luis Potosi has at least one garden in each of its seven original districts. The main historical district is concentrated in the centre of the city. Some of the places of interest are the neoclassical styled Ipina building which was constructed with pink quarry stones, the Cathedral Potosina, the Baroque- styled façade of the Loreto chapel and the numerous temples dated back to the colonial times. Another interesting stop is the Museo Nacional de la Máscara (National Museum of Masks). The museum houses a good collection and represents virtually all aspects of this fascinating part of Mexican culture. Among San Luis Potosi City's principal feasts is the National Potosin Fair, which is celebrated in August with a commercial, cattle and industrial exhibition. San Luis Potosi is also one of the 59 Light Cities that exist in the world. The buildings are illuminated to showcase the detailed architecture and form and at the same time provide a romantic ambience to the city.
