Lido di Camaiore, is a major seaside resort located in the coastal area of Tuscany called Versilia, which includes, among others, Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio. The vast sandy beach of Lido di Camaiore lies between Marina di Pietrasanta and Viareggio, sloping smoothly into the sea. The town is a particularly attractive resort with several villas set amidst delightful gardens, wide streets, squares and public gardens. Lido di Camaiore offers a good variety of sporting activities like windsurfing, sailing, boating. There are facilities where you can hire the so called pattini (small wooden boats), boats, and bicycles. Near Lido di Camaiore at the locality Montiscendi a 18 hole golf course has recently opened. Your seaside holiday will be brightened up with great Italian-style beach resort entertainment facilities: discotheques, clubs, open air cinemas, music-halls, like "La Bussola" which has hosted world-famous musicians and artists. The cuisine in Lido di Camaiore is typical of all Versilia, an area celebrated for its home cooking that can be enjoyed in sophisticated restaurants as well as in the characteristic countryside trattorias. The coast specializes in sea food, whereas inland is known mostly for its more traditional Tuscan cooking. The area is also a good tourist base for trips to the main art cities and tourist centres in Versilia, Tuscany and Liguria. Within a couple of hours by train or car one can visit Pisa, Viareggio, Florence, San Giminiano, the Cinque Terre and many, many other interesting towns.
