Podersdorf is the most tourists of all holiday destinations around the Lake Neusiedlersee (state of Burgenland). A bathing resort that offers the best place to swim. Its shallow, warm waters (knee-deep for a mile) are perfect for small children. There is a motorboat station and you can rent paddleboats. Podersdorf is also popular with birders (there are a number of storks' nests on the houses, some of which are thatched with reeds), bicyclers and windsurfers. It may not be the sea, but this shallow lake does get its fair share of waves. Extreme sport fanatics head for the town in Austria's Bergenland for the annual Surf World Cup (29 Apr - 6 May). Surfing and kite-surfing pros hit the water to compete for the popular title of European Freestyle and Kitesurf world champion. A sand, reed-free beach is waiting for those who like better to keep their feet on solid round: beach tennis, foot volleyball and beach soccer tournaments run concurrently.
